I’ve been slacking on the blog, I know. But it’s because I have a few long posts I’m working on which require lots of research and learning on my part, and I’m crazy busy at the moment preparing for shows this year. In the meantime here are a few more plein air sketches from winter in Florence. These were painted with a set of M. Graham oil paints which I have been trying out:
I’ve been waiting to see what’s next.
Good things come to those that wait! This work has got me enjoying the views. Thanks for taking
time to post for us, I, for one, appreciate this post/blog!
Great pieces, especially the first. Big fan of your work. Dan
thanks for the posts! these are lovely. I’ve been wishing to do some plein air work but it is so cold in NYC at the moment, and I just dont think I could spend 3 or 4 hours outside. Have you ever posted about how you go about working in the cold? I’d be interested to know more about how you adapt.
Hello Jade,
I wear layers, thermal underwear, a heavy jacket, hat, and a “Hibbard mitten” if it’s way below freezing.
But the real trick, I find, is to have those hand warmers that hunters use tucked under my toes in my boots. I find if my feet and head are warm I don’t have any trouble. Stapleton Kearns talks a lot about painting in the snow on his blog, and he is much more of an expert than I.
cool! thanks for that.
