Hello Jade,

I wear layers, thermal underwear, a heavy jacket, hat, and a “Hibbard mitten” if it’s way below freezing.

But the real trick, I find, is to have those hand warmers that hunters use tucked under my toes in my boots. I find if my feet and head are warm I don’t have any trouble. Stapleton Kearns talks a lot about painting in the snow on his blog, and he is much more of an expert than I.

thanks for the posts! these are lovely. I’ve been wishing to do some plein air work but it is so cold in NYC at the moment, and I just dont think I could spend 3 or 4 hours outside. Have you ever posted about how you go about working in the cold? I’d be interested to know more about how you adapt.
