Lots of press this month.
There is an article on me in Plein Air Magazine, available both online and in print (in the US). An article I wrote on Isaac Levitan’s use of glazes is in the online magazine Artists on Art. And finally I have a painting on the cover of Dan’s Papers in the Hamptons, as well as a small article inside.
I wondered if you could elaborate on the scraping technique you use. Your article mentions this is an old technique used to achieve a particular effect. When I scrape a painting it is because I am dissatisfied with what I have done and I am removing the paint to try to do it better. I am really curious to learn more about this.
Hi Ward, I made a short video describing the process, you can see it here. It only works on canvas, but it keeps the colors thin and works well if you want to keep control of the surface. It also helps the painting dry overnight if you like to work wet over dry, as I do sometimes.
I was wondering when you were going to come out Plein Air Mag!
Congrats Marc!
Marc,
I’ve run into you a few times in the Plein Air forum on Wetcanvas, discussing how to teach workshops. I read your article in Plein Air magazine. Congratulations on such good press!
